Deliberate Parenthood of Illinois, an affiliate of the Deliberate Parenthood Federation of The USA, has agreed to pay $500,000 to forestall a authorities investigation into costs of discrimination tied to the organization’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.

The settlement stems from costs investigated by the U.S. Equal Employment Substitute Commission, the federal agency tasked with investigating claims of discrimination in the non-public sector.

In response to the EEOC, Deliberate Parenthood of Illinois violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 when it “segregated employees by race, subjected white employees to harassment, and engaged in disparate treatment against white employees regarding terms, conditions, and privileges of employment.”

In an announcement Thursday, EEOC Chair Andrea Lucas wrote that segregating employees by trip violates “the core promise of our nation’s civil rights laws.”

“Title VII guarantees equal treatment for every employee and prohibits race discrimination in America’s workplaces,” she wrote. “Those protections equally apply to white workers.”

The agency says its investigation became attributable to costs brought by extra than one employees. It found Deliberate Parenthood required employees to motivate, on a weekly foundation, both periods of ‘affinity caucuses’ segregated by trip whereby employees of utterly different races weren’t allowed to participate, or DEI-related coaching periods “which involved repeated harassing and derogatory statements targeting white employees, including that they ‘are White and do not feel racism the same way non-White patients feel.'”

Deliberate Parenthood of Illinois president and CEO Adrienne White-Faines acknowledged the settlement in an announcement, noting the place of job trainings and practices took situation below prior management.

“In the time since this complaint was filed, and since I came on board as President and CEO in 2025, I have overseen significant change at the organization, including across the leadership team,” White-Faines wrote. “[Planned Parenthood of Illinois] has now come to an agreement with the EEOC about a path forward that will allow us to put this matter behind us and continue providing critical health care services to our valued patients from Illinois and across the country.”

Below President Trump, the EEOC has taken an extra and extra aggressive stance against DEI, with Chair Lucas calling for an stop to “identity politics” and warning employers that their DEI initiatives may perchance perchance set aside them at factual likelihood.

In steering issued a year in the past, Lucas warned that DEI packages or practices may perchance perchance be unlawful if an employer takes “an employment action motivated — in whole or in part— by an employee’s or applicant’s race, sex, or another protected characteristic.”

Final month, Lucas despatched a letter to leaders of Fortune 500 corporations reminding them of their duties below the landmark civil rights law.

A bunch of worn EEOC leaders issued a public letter in response. They urged corporations that or no longer it is quiet factual to give diversity coaching and make stronger employee handy resource groups, offered every person appears to be like to be handled moderately and without discrimination. Affinity groups must be open to all.

The settlement comes because the EEOC is investigating Nike over its DEI insurance policies, including targets the company location for diversifying its employees. The EEOC has also sued a Coca Cola bottler and distributor in federal court, alleging that the company discriminated against white men when it held a two-day networking occasion for female employees.
